Hi, I am trying to use two pieces of HC-SR04 ultrasound sensors to measure sound speed though different media, have anybody tried similar experiments ?
The transducers are designed for efficient operation in air - what sort of media were you thinking of?
juice,
I think if I can record time stamps of signal start and end from one sensor and the echo receiving time stamp from the other, I can calculate speed of sound between the two sides.
How do you intend to attach the transducers to the "media"? If not directly attached, there is always the problem of what you think is an echo is actually the initial pulse, if the speed of sound through the "media" is less than that of air?
Paul
YES you can. However if the media is significantly different than air you will have two issues:
- Coupling the ultrasonic wave will be very very inefficient.
- The speed of sound in a "harder" media will be so much faster the millis() may not have enough resolution.
