High and Low Voltage Common Ground

Hello Everyone,

I have a question. I have a stepper motor controller. In the controller's datasheet (Fig.1), it says, connect VCC to MCU's VCC and send the signals.

VCC is Opto-coupler common anode and it is bidirectional. Is it possible to connect MCU's ground, Driver's ground and power source ground at the same ground as in Figure 2?
