How does one get Karma points?

;D

By helping another member to the point they want to say "Thank you for your help."
They then click on the "Add Karma" button next to your user name.

Thanks

did I hear some click's ?

I noticed that I can add Karma to myself. "Thank you for your help." I am helping myself (to get good Karma).

Karma is an indication of the appreciation of other members.

It is pretty meaningless to add your own karma.

No you can't. I just tried it.

(Purely for research purposes of course).

Neither scenario seems plausable (especially 0 posts when I'm looking at a post!)

Posts in BarSport don't add to your post count.

Sorry, but it certainly looks like someone indeed can.
(Unless you meant to imply that "till the moderators become aware of it.")
I've figured that much with regard to a couple of accounts, most suspicious.

Dang! That's too bad cause some of my best posts are here.

(edit: confirmed, no added post for this one.)

How do you know they added Karma to themselves? It might have been someone else. Mr. Sock Puppet, for example.

OK, I did it once (by mistake) on the previous forum - and it worked (I just know it did.)
I tried it this time and got an error message bounced back that you can't do that.
Nevertheless - 31 and 31. Suspicious. No?
What if someone has two accounts?
(That Mr. Sock Puppet could do with some watching.)

Lol ya you can add karma points to ur self

Yeah, but in bird culture, that is considered a dick move.

One way of getting karma is to solicit: one member (I forget who, but will make mental note next time I see it) has a note along the lines of "karma points are welcome" in his profile by his avatar.

If it it makes him feel better getting karma without any effort or giving any help to others, who are we to argue?

Imagine having shiny shoes and a white shirt with tie and pocket protector to prove you're smart.
Yes there will be people who will be fooled by self-promotion.

I've seen my karma go up a point after making a joke. Other times I've gotten thanks with no karma. Still others I did. Maybe my horoscope or something has as much relation to getting points as anything I did.

Only if it's funny.
