How to get the IDE 2.x, to re-read boards.txt IDE V2.3.10

I have edited the ESP32 boards.txt for FireBeetle 2 ESP32-E to add a Custom entry

dfrobot_firebeetle2_esp32e.menu.PartitionScheme.custom=Custom
dfrobot_firebeetle2_esp32e.menu.PartitionScheme.custom.build.partitions=
dfrobot_firebeetle2_esp32e.menu.PartitionScheme.custom.upload.maximum_size=16777216

and put a partition.csv in the sketch dir
edit continuing
checking via cli arduino-cli board details -b
esp32:esp32:dfrobot_firebeetle2_esp32e

show the update boards.txt entries
but even after restarting the Windows machine the IDE dose not

how do I get the IDE to see the new boards.txt entries

likely this bug

You probably need to find the Electron app data cache the IDE keeps separate from Arduino15, it may be in ~/AppData/Roaming/arduino-ide on Windows, fully quit the IDE and kill any lingering arduino-ide.exe or backend arduino-cli.exe processes first, then delete (save it somewhere first just in case) that folder and relaunch.

It's likely that the board menu will get rebuilt from boards.txt then...

To confirm that a change really is not picked up correctly rather than an error in the syntax, you can swap the location of 2 menu options, moving one to the top of the list.

esp32wroverkit.menu.UploadSpeed.921600=921600
esp32wroverkit.menu.UploadSpeed.921600.upload.speed=921600
esp32wroverkit.menu.UploadSpeed.115200=115200
esp32wroverkit.menu.UploadSpeed.115200.upload.speed=115200

into

esp32wroverkit.menu.UploadSpeed.115200=115200
esp32wroverkit.menu.UploadSpeed.115200.upload.speed=115200
esp32wroverkit.menu.UploadSpeed.921600=921600
esp32wroverkit.menu.UploadSpeed.921600.upload.speed=921600

Alternately, i guess you could install IDE 1.8.19 side by side to IDE 2 and see if changes are picked up in that. I never really use IDE 2 much.

Also i suspect that not only is an opening and closing of the IDE required, but also the selecting of a different board, before the boards.txt is re-loaded.

thanks that worked
changing boards to a different one and recompiling did not work

perhaps this should be fixed.
Seems to be an outstanding problem since June 2022

Yep… with some other stuff. But there seems to be minimal work done on the 2.x IDE nowadays so I would not hold my breath.

@J-M-L @Deva_Rishi Here is the 'official' fix (workaround)
