How to Use the Arduino Redboard?

So I have this project that requires me to use this and I have no idea where to start! I went to the website to download the zip file for windows, after that I followed the direction on how to start the program but when I went go to the serial port as instructed but it was already set to COM 3 when the instruction book told me to set it to COM 1 I couldn't find a way to get it to that setting.

I have tried everything and tried googling but it has led me nowhere. Please help me!

What com ports do you have available when it is not plugged in and what ports when it is?

when it is not plugged no ports show up and when it is plugged only COM 3 pops up.

I assume you are talking bout a SparkFun Redboard.

Com 3 is what you should see, and Windows was smart enough to do this for you. It will assign higher Com Port numbers to additional Arduinos you use. Com 1 and Com 2 are usually reserved for hardware serial ports.

the instruction book told me to set it to COM 1

This is not correct. Just select Com 3 and carry on.

Is it possible to use the Sparkfun Red Board on Arduino create web editor?

@ mab1969

Yes it is.

A fix was pushed last week to enable the redboard for another user.

There may be a slight issue with the serial monitor so if you do use CREATE then please let us know if you have any issues with that aspect. in the CREATE EDITOR section.
