I am trying to take pulses from a hall sensor flow meter and turn a stepper by an adjustable ratio. So a dosing system

Sorry everyone but I am a newby
I need a stepper to turn up to 1000 RPM according to flow meter pulses how ever I am struggling to get my various configurations to do it. I have raspberry pi. esp 32 arduino mega that I can choose from. I also have various controllers that I have bought a DM 556, dmc 2209. I have tried Nema 17 and now a nema23
I am using a variable voltage 30 volt 8 amp dc power supply
I can only get about 250rpm. most of the data I have looked at says the 23 should be able to do between 1500 and 2000 rpm . Whattt am I missing

In general, stepper motors are known for their precise control but may not always be optimized for high-speed applications compared to other types of motors like DC motors.

the 17 or 23 in Nema 17 or Nema 23 is just an indication of the physical size of your motor => the electrical and other physical specs (max RPM) are what matters.

do you have the datasheet for your motor?

A stepper is not a good choice for this.

Whattt am I missing

Could be lots of things. Please read and follow the instructions in the "How to get the best out of this forum" tutorial, and post the needed information.
