What does Ubuntu know about your keyboard layout?
What is your keyboard layout?
My keyboard layout is ok. Is a English keyboard.
Just Arduino IDE cannot work with my computer, I have other java programs in same computer working very well with this keyboard layout...
Can you remove that snap ? Who made that snap ? That could be a security risk. There is no reason for it.
I used Google Translate, but I still don't understand: "Anyone can hemp?".
If possible, then remove all the Java from the repositories. No jre, (open)jdk, java and so on packages. Be sure to only remove the Java related packages, not the JavaScript.
Please also remove the modemmanager. In the past it was touching my Serial port with its dirty fingers.
Download the 64-bit from the Arduino website: https://www.arduino.cc/en/software
That is Arduino IDE 1.8.19 at the moment.
I do not install something, I only unpack it. Then I make a shortcut to the file arduino
.
Check the preferences, if the locations and settings are okay, then you are ready to go.
What is a English keyboard, is that not the same as a "US" or "US International" ?
I seems impossible that this is Arduino IDE problem. Can you tell more about your settings for your keyboard ?
I have a US International keyboard, with: English US international, AltGr dead keys.
So I can type double quotes " and single quotes ' as I press that key. I don't want someone looking over my shoulder and decide that I have to type something else, the horror
Certainly not a solution but in the meantime...
Can you type oxr then go back and delete the x ?
I downloaded the IDE from arduino website, unpacked only and opened...
same result
That is weird. Can you tell what your keyboard settings in Ubuntu are ? Are you using a normal keyboard connected to the USB port ? Can you try a keyboard that is connected in a different way ?
You could even install a on-screen keyboard and click the keys with a mouse.
There are a number of tools in linux to check the keyboard.
It could be a bug in the Arduino IDE, but it feels as if there is kind of conversion and the " and ' does not reach the Arduino IDE. Did you install something special for the keyboard ?
Reading the other posts, I'm not sure what you mean by
i cannot type " or ' ...
What happens when you type the O the the R? Can you type words like "other"?
I think the question is "why can't I use single or double quotes?"
I can tyoe everything, except these chars ' or " into arduino IDE. In other apps everything is normal.
