I have no idea what I am doing

I just got my Opta, RS465 version. I am testing this out on a simple machine at work to see how it goes.

So I had the IT department download PLC IDE 1.0.3.1. I can open up the software and all seems good. The device info shows the opta as the board being used. Under "Other" the ports that are shown are "COM6" and "Automatic (Bootloader)". I tried downloading on both for the initialization.

Under "Setup Communications", "Properties", I selected COM6, as that was the only actual port to show up, and I tried to download.

The message comes up that it may take minutes for it to download. I select OK, and nothing happens.

I try to connect to the OPTA, and either it comes up with ERROR, or the software crashes.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Also, the reason I have IT downloading the software is because we have security protocols that only IT is allowed to download software on company computers.

A link would help. Is that supposed to be "RS485", by the way?

Welcome to the forum, by the way!

Yes, sorry. RS485. And what do you mean by a link?
like a hyperlink to the software?

I'm technologically impaired by the way. I'm learning.

Please, also take a look at this while I'm getting up to speed.

Gotcha......

Okay, so I get what you're doing now. I'm not a user in this field, so I'll bow to others, but I would expect someone will come along soon.
Although this thread seems to have died,

I'm including the original poster to see if it was resolved in some other way. Sometimes people don't come back and close out their threads.
@EEEnthusiast ?

Yeah, that was the first thread I found to read about.
