IDE hangs on startup: "discovery teensy:teensy-discovery not found"

Every time I try to open the new Arduino IDE I can't get past the bouncing logo. When I run in powershell this is what I get.

Up to this point, "our" machines report the same. Yours then errors to a halt where mine continues.

When I start my IDE on my very slow Windows 11 (the script even complains root WARN Backend d.initialize took longer than the expected maximum 50 milliseconds: 66.0 ms), I see in the IDE lower-left the "indexing x/y" happening... and so I wait.

Try restarting your IDE, and start a tea an toast while it loads and indexes and lets all the magic out.

Hi @chazlambo.

This indicates that something is wrong with the installation of the "Teensy" boards platform on your computer.

Other users who experienced this problem reported that it was fixed after uninstalling and then reinstalling the platform. Normally we can use the convenient Boards Manager GUI to uninstall platforms, but since the IDE doesn't start it will instead be necessary to uninstall it manually. After that, the IDE should start up and you can use Boards Manager to reinstall the platform.

I'll provide instructions you can follow to do that:

A. Uninstall "Teensy" Platform

  1. Close the Arduino IDE window if it is running.
  2. Delete the folder at the following path:
    C:\Users\charl\AppData\Local\Arduino15\packages\teensy\
    :warning: Please be very careful when deleting things from your computer. When in doubt, back up!
    :exclamation: If looking for it with your file browser or command line, note that the AppData folder is hidden by default. On Windows "File Explorer", you can make it visible by opening the "View" menu, then checking the box next to "☐ Hidden items".
  3. Start Arduino IDE.

The IDE should start successfully this time.

B. Reinstall "Teensy" Platform

The instructions above uninstalled the "Teensy" boards platform. If you need that platform, you should now reinstall it by following the official instructions here:

Hopefully that will produce a fully working installation that won't interfere with the IDE's ability to start up on future sessions.
