I'm beyond tired of the forum JACK AROUND

Some new EXPERT has made their mark and moved controls around or removed them. Now I'm stuck with light theme that BOTHERS MY EFFING EYES!

First they rearrange the forum to WASTE SCREEN SPACE and now this. Dunno how I'll feel but WORSE EVERY TIME about sums it up, there was never any need to change the look from 2012.. whenever they pulled that one.

PS: I had to edit some truth out of this (thanks @sterretje) so I substituted EXPERT for another better fitting word for someone who just jerks us around. Begins with 'a'.

end-PS

@admin?

Mine was fine on Firefox till I cleared the cache and cookies and had to login again. Now I indeed don't seem to be able change the theme to dark.

PS
Thanks for rephrasing

I'm sure that most admin are not EXPERTs.

No, not admin.

@sterretje
Maybe I have not been observant since time zero, but did you receive the "moderator" badge recently?

Since mid June.

Ah. Cool. I got another suspension in June, so only noticed now.

Hi @GoForSmoke !

There are lots of people who tell us that "change is good" and we shall take it as a "chance". I tend to ask them why at the same time they don't consider climate change a great development?!?

Unfortunately most of them don't understand that change is not a value by itself.

But if someone feels chosen to give the world a great gift in the form of an incredible improvement, what is there to say against it?

Stay healthy and heads up!

Please try this:

  1. Click the following link to open the "Interface" tab of your account preferences in your web browser:
    https://forum.arduino.cc/my/preferences/interface
  2. Select your preferred color palettes from the menus under the "Color Palette" section of the page.
  3. Click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page.
  4. Use your browser controls to refresh the page.

Hopefully the forum will now use your preferred color palette. If not, please tell me which web browser you are using and I'll investigate further.

What happens when you perform the procedure I described in my previous reply?

I've now got it right.

But I'm reasonably sure that there was a change; as far as I know my settings in the past were

I apologize for the inconvenience. The Discourse team did apply a fix to the custom theme used by Arduino Forum earlier:

I would not expect a minor patch to the existing theme to result in a change to the preferences of users.

The last update to the Discourse forum framework (note the custom theme is a separate component) occurred on 2026-08-01:

The fact that reports are only being made now, a few days later, makes me doubt the problem you encountered was caused by the Discourse framework update.

I had the same issue with my theme becoming white and hurting my eyes and had to work my way to my personal preferences.

I find it a bad practice if an admin can modify MY choices. This is a slip away from modifying security or privacy settings…

Poor behavior or poor planning .

I usually don't log out from the forum. I did clear cache and cookies a day ago and and had to login again; after that the theme was light instead of dark.

Do you log out? Maybe there is a relation?

I doubt a little that that is the case. New software might have undesired side effects; possibly that extensive testing was not done.

I'm not sure what you mean by "admin"; I'm reasonably sure that pert did not change things related to user preferences.

No I did not log out not cleared anything- hence my belief that somehow my personal preferences were altered by a server side change / bug.

I did not apply the fix to the theme. However, I did coordinate the fix with the Discourse team, and approved the deployment of the fix to Arduino Forum. So I do take responsibility for any problems caused by this work.

I reviewed the specific changes that were made when the fix was applied and discovered that the theme name was changed from the previous awkward "discourse-arduino-theme (reuploaded)" to "Arduino Theme". I suspect this name change is what caused the user theme preferences to revert to the default.

Arduino Forum uses a hosting plan offered by the company behind the open source Discourse forum framework. Maintenance services are provided as part of that hosting plan. So Discourse team members are granted admin privileges as required to perform that maintenance.

When I changed Auto to Dark, that worked.

OK - too bad the readable name is the ID, kinda a design error between presentation layer and abstraction.

No big deal anyway - thanks for maintaining the forum.
