Imgtool detected as a virus by McAfee

I was compiling LED example in ArduinoBLE | Peripheral when McAfee detected a virus and removed it.
Since, I've got the message :
Compilation error: exec:
"C:\Users\Alain\AppData\Local\Arduino15\packages\arduino\tools\imgtool\1.8.0-arduino/imgtool":
file does not exist

LICENSE.txt is now the only file in the directory.

I reinstalled arduino-ide_2.0.0-rc6_Windows_64bit the compilation message came back again.

How to reinstall imgtool ?
I will check with McAfee what to do with this false virus.

Hi @Alain_T. Thanks for your report.

I confirmed your finding that "McAfee-GW-Edition" detects this file as malware:

  1. Download imgtool 1.8.0-arduino for Windows 64-bit by clicking this link:
    https://downloads.arduino.cc/tools/imgtool_1.8.0-rc1_Windows_64bit.zip
  2. Wait for the download to finish.
  3. Unzip the downloaded file.
  4. Copy the file imgtool.exe from the unzipped folder to this folder:
    C:\Users\Alain\AppData\Local\Arduino15\packages\arduino\tools\imgtool\1.8.0-arduino\

Please let me know if you have any questions or problems while following those instructions.

Thank you ptillisch for the detailed informations.
I've send an email to McAfee with your link to VirusTotal and the original false detected file.
I will let them some time before compiling my ArduinoBLE again.
