Work around used, not solved.
Install does not create an icon anywhere during install, running Linux Mint 22.1. Have to reinstall each time I what to use the IDE. Have not found a way to uninstall to try a clean install. Did install libfuse2, no help. TIA

Why can't you install the IDE and just create a shortcut to the executable ?
Because I did not think of it. Thanks. I'll try it now. But I do not know where the executable is located. Fairly new to LInux.
For the AppImage version, the downloaded file is the executable, after you mark it so, as indicated in the instructions. You can move it somewhere other than your ~/Downloads directory first, though.
There is no install step, and no install to "undo".
Thanks Ken. What I did to work around the issue was to download the zip file then made a launcher for that Aarduino-ide file on the desk top.
From my searching it appears this problem has been with Arduino for the pas 4 years or so. It does not appear as tho they are too worried about fixing it.
