I was typing a long reply on my ipad and had to find a link for the reply so switched to a new window for two minutes and got the link and got back to the reply page but ipad intellegently refreshed the page upon switching to it, erasing all my replies to a blank. You little! The only reason I bought it is to see why Steve Jobs can sell stuff he doesnt even do market or customer analysis for and I am very unhappy with this pretty pad withgood visual but intended for idiots! Two minutes, who the heck changes their webpage in two minutes?!

The sort of people who use their iPads (or their smartphones) for social networking: $DEITY forbid they should fall more than 2 minutes behind on the latest gossip because they forgot to refresh Tiffy's Twitface page.
This sort of thing has been a problem for years with using the net to interface to realtime systems. You look at the screen and say "Uh-oh. the coolant pressure spiked: I'd better save these readings for analysis". Tough luck for you: if you try to, the browser will replace them with whatever's current before doing the save.
I understand the importance of realtime-like refreshing but I was just going between two browser windows like doing ctrl+tab on a windows machine running firefox. Firefox doesn't refresh this very page I am typing in just because I switched away from it.
It's the same with a smaller iOS device.
Kind of annoying, but I've gotten in the habit of select all-copying text that I write before I click "post" or go to another page on my ipod touch. On basically any website where I would type a bunch.
Not too bad, it's just an extra 2 seconds to copy it, oh well.

I am going to do it just in case. I used to do it with yahoo mail. Now they might have fixed it.
It isn't a matter of refreshing, it is a matter of RAM.
When iOS gets low on memory, it sends out a signal to dormant applications to release memory. Safari gives it up pretty quickly (especially on the iPad 1 which only has 256mb.) Your page didn't refresh, it got trashed and had to be reloaded.

Well as my friend's Galaxy S II has a dual core 1.5GHz processor 1GB RAM, that's a bit rubbish...

Some interesting discussions on this. Really annoys me to see people with thousands of posts don't know better than others. If I knew iPad has 512 RAM, I would have compared with another pad although any other pad will not be as fruity as apple's.
