Is markdown composer still default?

Curious if this is still the case? There might have been a post / topic about it but I could not find it.

Reason for asking is that I have noticed a number of posts with backslashes in the code; e.g. \[x\].

The forum settings are still configured to make Markdown the default:

It is interesting to see that newcomers have switched to the "rich text editor". It is of course good that they choose the composer mode they prefer, but we get the impression that most newcomers are completely oblivious to the existence of the composer toolbar entirely.

Maybe it is worth reconsidering the default. When the rich text editor feature was first added, I concluded that was best. However, as we then discovered many unique ways in which that mode resulted in corrupted posts, I changed my mind (and probably would have done away with the rich text editor entirely if such a setting existed). The Discourse developers have resolved some of those pain points since that time, but not all of them.

I did try to simulate it without posting but did not succeed. Dump a piece of code in the WYSIWYG editor and next apply code tags but the \ does not show. Maybe it only happens after submitting the post.

It might also be advisable for the helpers here not to advise to apply code tags afterwards when using the WYSIWYG composer.

It's a pity that that can't be done. There are plenty of advantages in using an established framework but one does depend on what they decide.

If you want to try posting such a message without disturbing anything you can try sending yourself a PM or post in https://forum.arduino.cc/c/staff/test

Clever; I often use the PM method but forgot about it.
