Is my Nano Every broken - no upload communication

Hi there,

I've a nano every board which lights up when the USB Mini cable is plugged in to it. I get Power LED constantly on and red and the L LED is blinking.

All fine.

I've installed the Arduino MegaAVR Boards via the board manager in the IDE 2.2.1 software and the correct COM port is Selected. From this area, I've also chosen Arduino Nano Every in the board selector.

I've tried to upload sketches to it from the examples and also from previously written programs specifically written for it from a 3rd party, but I'm constantly getting the following errors: (There's a ton of the first error as it keeps re-trying)

avrdude: jtagmkII_getsync(): sign-on command: status -1
avrdude: jtagmkII_getsync(): timeout/error communicating with programmer (status -1)
Failed uploading: uploading error: exit status 1

I've tried different USB cables and different USB ports (and then changing the settings in the IDE) but to no avail.

I've used Megas, Leonardos and Unos in the past with no problem so am familiar to a point with the Arduino way and what I should expect, but this one has me stifled.

Have I got a dead unit or is there a magic thing I need to do with the Nano Every to put it into a special upload mode or something?

Oh, I'm on Windows 10 as far as my OS is concerned and in the Device Manager, Com3 (where it's connected) shows as "USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM3)"

That's not a Nano Every. A Nano Every uses a SAMD processor for the communication with the PC, not a CH340.

You are right!

I've just done some further digging and it seems I've been given some slightly bogus instructions in the software readme provided by our original developer.

It seems it's actually an ELEGOO Nano Board CH340/ATmega328P compatible with offical Nano.

Thank you for making me look further and not wasting further days trying to get something wrong to work.
