Large type K thermocouple to MAX6675 Amplifier

Hi everyone!
I need to measure temperatures between -130C and +20C on a aluminum plate, to further maintain it at a set temperature with a heating device and a controlled PID loop.
I ordered this type K thermocouple from RS: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/thermocouples/0192142?gb=s
Ref: 192-142
And would like to connect it to MAX6675.

However, the plug is way too large for the MAX6675 which require a 2-Wire Tail. Has anyone solves this?

So far I see two options:

  • find an adapter, but which one?
  • remove the plug and hope the wire can be used as such, is it possible?

Any other suggestions?
Thank you! :sunny:

Thanks for your help! I already checked these kind of adapters, but it simply provides smaller plugs whereas I need to switch from round female plugs to wire tails. I might just unscrew and release the wire

You open them up and connect it to the MAX6675 using wires

Hi, @zabmtr
Welcome to the forum.

If the installation is not temporary and you do not require the k-type to be unplugged go for direct connection.
Remove the plug.
It will give you a more reliable and accurate reading as the connection is more permanent and stable.

It looks like the k-type you have is the "naked" type, no electrical insulation around the junction, you may need to provide some electrical insulation around it in the aluminium plate.
