I'm looking for some of that milky/frosty white plastic stuff that diffuses light.

Are there certain keywords related to that kind of plastic, or some sort of opacity index that would help pick out something I want without being able to see it in person?

Thin, lightweight sheets would be good to play with, if they can be heat molded into shapes that'd be even better.

Any info on terminology, plastic type manufacturing codes, particular plastic make-up, inexpensive sources, alternatively upcycled items (I drilled a couple ping pong balls with satisfactory results lol)?

Maybe you can get hold of an old laptop or LCD monitor..
Plenty of weird thin opaque plastic sheets behind the LCD screen.

Dull laminating film does a good job, too. A plastic sheet protectors (dull) works as well.
