Im pretty sure i saw this but havent been able to find it since... basically thin wire with tiny rings on both ends that you can loop over two pins on a circuit board and solder... making a path without having to solder lines across.... where can I find these? Thx...
That does not compute.
You might be thinking of wirewrap.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wire_wrap
What does that mean?
You know how you connect two points in an expansion board by just drawing the solder from A to B forming a fat snail of solder? I've seen some product made of wire with tiny loops you could drop over the two pins, connecting them, and then just quickly solder the ends. Do you know this?
Sounds like you are thinking of header pin jumpers, used to set defaults on header pin assemblies on motherboards, disk drives, etc. These typical examples have a plastic shell over the metal shorting component.
If I thought that was a better idea, I would simply put a loop in the ends of the wire. That is what my super slim needlenose pliers are for.
Sounds a lot like wire wrap, but that does not involve any soldering. Instead, the components are put into sockets with square posts, the corners of which cut into the wire as it is wrapped around the post, making a secure electrical connection. The wire used is solid 30 gauge, generally tinned so it looks solder color. The same type wire is often used for making modifications to circuit boards by soldering it point-to-point between components.
this was the picture I saw. I was hoping it was a commercial product - you can see the little pre-looped wires - but I think its a photo from a electronics factory where they may use this stuff in house, but it's not for sale...?
No, I'm not thinking of wirewrap. Later in this thread I post a photo of what I saw - which I assume is internal parts at an electronics assembly factory, I've seen nothing like it before or since. See post #9
Are you talking about the things circled in red which are common and available or the things circled in blue which are not clear enough to recognize?
The ones circled in red are Samtec HTS series or equivalent. The description is " Single Row Screw Machine Terminal Strip."
That appears to be an AI generated image. AI is notorious for hallucination.
And the insulation is removed by soldering. The heat melts/vaporizes away the insulation, exposing the bare metal.
If you are talking about wire wrap wire, the insulation is usually removed before soldering if soldering enters into it at all.
Kynar, a typical insulation material, doesn't really go away with heat.

I've always called that magnet wire. It probably has other names.
No, not wirewrap wire. We used wire of the same color for modifying circuit boards and the soldering iron heat melted the isulaton so the girls did not have to strip before soldering.
