Mega 2560 Burn voltage regulator

my arduino mega 2560 burn it was max 20v so i put it on 20v and it burn when i look at power supply it said 20.2v

It's never advisable to use the maximum (or minimum) ratings.

What was the reason behind applying max voltage?I suspect a misunderstanding of basic electronics.

Can you tell which part burned?

At 20V, the voltage regulator will rapidly get too hot if you are drawing a lot of current. Might be ok if you have nothing connected to the Mega, but several LEDs or other devices will be too much load at that voltage.

And what is it you expect the forum to do other than "Don't do that again"

To provide no information about what was wired to your Arduino provides us with zero ‘handles’ to help you with. I believe you’ve provided the Arduino with a significant load which would be just fine on USB power, or with a 7-12V supply, but at 20V you’ve overheated the onboard regulator.

But, I’m just speculating. Over to you.

IF you used a regulated bench power supply, why would you select such a high value. The regulator could have burned at 18V already. NEVER go close to maximum values before that's what will happen.

Send a photograph of the regulator, what is your suspicion based on. Was it hot? Does it still work? Does the whole board still work? Even if the regulator burned it should be an easy repair for anyone who can solder.

20.2V is greater than 20V. 20V is listed as the absolute maximum.

And looking at a clone Mega I have here, lots of parts are only rated for 16V, not 20V.

Food for thought.

What did you think the benefit was of running at 20VDC instead of, say, 8VDC? The board only gets 5VDC from either, with the balance being dissipated as heat in the VR.
