Menu too long for screen

It's been a long time since I've played with Arduino and in the meantime I've replaced my dead desktop with a second hand Lenovo Thinkpad. I run Arduino under Kubuntu 17.04.

The problem is that the menu items (boards and examples) are too long for the screen and I'm unable to select those items that are off the screen. The menus don't scroll when I hit the bottom of the screen.

An Internet search hasn't revealed an answer. Is there a cure for this?

Are you using Arduino IDE 1.8.4? I know they did some work on the problem not too long ago.

I just installed the latest version, which works correctly, and was trying to delete my post when I saw your reply.
