micro USB connection to Mac problem: not seeing Arduino in serial port

Hi all

I have a peculiar problem with my arduino connecton to Mac computer. When connecting the Mega (with normal USB) to my mac, I can see my Arduino on the serial port (though Arduino IDE). When when I try to connect Arduino Micro and Yun (both with micro USB), i can't see Arduino on the serial port.

Any idea why this is the case?

problem solved....turned out I was using a micro usb cable that cannot transfer data (it just provides power!)
