Yesterday I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 11 Pro on my Asus P8Z77/ i7-3770K based computer. Clean install on new SSD.
Had to apply a registry workaround to trick it beyond Microsoft hardware test which does not recognize the i7-3770k as "qualified".
Once installed all looks fine, except that it does not detect my MKR NB 1500. No comports shows up in devmgr.
Installed ASUS' chipset and USB drivers for Windows 10 as Windows 11 drivers are not offered, no luck.
Also tried adding RM340 drivers according to a google search, no luck.
Now I have added a Sunix dual USB3.0 PCIe card and installed drivers, same problem.
No "ding/dong" sound when plugging or unplugging the MKR in any comport, reboots does not help.
I know that my HW is rather old, but as I consider it the specs are fair and performance is good, and I don't want to scrap it yet.
I would appreciate very much a solution that can once again get my board connected
Of course it could be a solution to use Linux for Arduino dev work, but then it would be another computer, as I'm running lotsa other Windows programs on this one.
And as a linux n00b I'd probably spend 90% of my time bitching with Linux internals, then it would be little time for my actual tasks on Aduino...
I understand.
Problem is I'm not certain where this problem is and I have no idea what to do about it.
USB ports work a treat against for instance USB sticks.
Install IDE 2.0 and make sure that you install all the libraries and package cores that pop up after the IDE installation. Then use a data USB cable to connect your board, it should detect it unless your computer has driver issue.
Thank you.
I installed 2.0.1 and subsequently support for MKR boards and then MKR NB program lib.
So you consider 2.0 to be a better choce than 2.0.1.? What about legacy 1.8.19?
Yes I suspect I have a computer driver issue, as even no ding-dong sounds when plugging. Will the Arduino installation take care of driver issues?
@bomber67 IDE 2.0.1 is better, you can also try IDE 1.8.19. But I would suggest you use a good utility software (driver updater) to update your computer drivers.

I'm sorry but then what do you mean by installing 2.0?

Suggestions for such utility SW?
Thank you!
From your recommendation I decided to give Driver Booster a try - normally I stay off most "free driver utilities" I come across as I suspect them to be PUPs/Malware.
Sorry for my ignorance, but unfortunately iobit.com does not provide me with a download link, I just end up going in circles...
Selecting Driver Updater from top menu and then Driver Updater Free brings me to two big green buttons, Free Download and Free Trial.
Pressing Free Download sends me to a page which is all about Screen recorder and Easy Desktop..If I click Driver Booster at the bottom I'm back at the two green buttons and here we go...
Thank you all for taking your time to try to contribute.
Problem still persists, I will try to sum up briefly what my problem is, hoping to find a path further.
Computer does not detect MKR NB 1500 USB comports after clean install of W11. No ding/don when pugging/unplugging. Board just powers up.
Of course no contact in IDE 2.0.1.
USB ports work fine for USB storage sticks etc.
Tried to install W10 drivers for chipset/usb for my Mobo P8Z77, no use.
Tried to install legacy devices from Dvmgr;
Action -> Add legacy hardware, manual install, highlighted Arduino and then "Arduino MKR NB 1500" and "Arduino MKR NB 1500 Bootloader, see picture". Being able to do so means that some kind of drivers is installed for the board by the IDE.
Exclamation marks in Devmgr and following text when I open device:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device."
Added 3rd party USB 3.0 PCie-card, same status as onboard ports.
Have googled around, looking for Z77 drivers for Windows 11 but found none.
So where do I go from here?
Where exactly do you guys think the dog is buried?
Actually the problem was a defective USB cable
Was so sure I had cross-checked cables that I ignored the possibility that this could be the reason.
Once connected via a new cable I got contact with the board
Once again thank you guys for your engagement!
