Monochrome Arduino Room Ambilight

So I had the idea of making an Ambilight proyect. The plan is to use some software that scans the PC monitor color and sends the average single color to the arduino. This color would be reproduced in 10meters of SMD 5050 RGB 60led/m Led Strip.

I've been searching how to do it and all I found were proyects that used short led strips to do this.
I would really like to finish this proyect and I would do a tutorial if I finaly get it done.

Does anyone know how to do it?

What kind of strips? The NeoPixel strips just connect one 1-meter strand to the next and can send data to all the LEDs at once or to individual LEDs.
