Motorized Window Crank

I'm looking for some project guidance. I'd like to attach some type of motor to a window crank and control it with an Arduino. I don't need help with code or anything like that, but I don't really know anything about motors.

The window is operated by a hand crank that attaches to a shaft with a set screw. I'd like to remove the hand crank and attach the motor to the shaft.

I was hoping that someone could point me to some resources where I can understand how to accomplish this. If anyone can just point me to where I could get started with types of motors, how to hook them up to objects, etc, I'd really appreciate it.

Simply connecting a motor directly will not have sufficient torque so you will need a gearing arrangement.
It also depends on the motor used as to how to drive it.

The motor will need to be reasonably powerful. Do some research on powered car windows.

A good source of low cost high-torque motors is used car screen-wiper motors.

As Robin2 said, wiper motors are good as they are geared internally.

How will the arduino know when you want to wind the windows up or down?

Do a Google search on how does electric windows work in a car

This will show the mechanism used.
