My NanoArduino is not working

Hello, I'm Maria. I came to this forum once last month asking for help to decide which board was the best for my project; a dress illuminated by LEDS depending on a thrmistors resistence. Based on the answers I decided to go with a NanoArduino. I didn't buy an original, I bought a clone.

Now that all my circuit is done, I can't pass codes to my board. This error appears Arduino:1.8.19 (Windows Store 1.8.57.0) (Windows 10), Placa (board): "Arduino Nano, ATmega328P"

avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\.\COM5": El sistema no puede encontrar el archivo especificado. (in English is something like "the system cannot find the specified archive.")

Problem uploading to board. See https://support.arduino.cc/hc/en-us/sections/360003198300 for suggestions.

I have no idea about what am I supposed to do. I've tried the recommendations in the link above but they all failed.
What can I do?

Thank you all!

(If you need more information feel free to ask whatever you need!)

which IDE version did you use?
what board type is selected ?
which USB port did you pock (seems COM5). Does this port disappear when you unplug the nano?
Does your clone requires a driver?
did you disconnect everything from the Nano and try to upload a blank sketch?
have you checked with another USB cable ? (it needs to carry data, not be just a power cable)
did you try the "old boot loader" option?

==> Blink sketch.

I actually meant "blank" as the default template doing nothing

void setup() {}
void loop()  {}

but blink will do :slight_smile:

I'll try to answer to some question for OP :slight_smile:

Thx my Catalan is a bit rusty :wink:

Several topics raised about these "nano (ch340) clones" blowing chunks lately.

Generally I find the clones use the non default bootloader, you need to go into tools -> processor and select old bootloader. Then try again, it should load your code. No promise if the code works but it should load it.

I think that you're jumping the gun :wink: Bootloaders are not involved in board detection (opening the port).

  1. I'm using Arduino 1.8.19 (Windows Store 1.8.57.0).
  2. The boars type selected is Arduino Nano.
  3. Yes it is a COM5, but where am I suposed to see if it is pluged or not?
  4. I don't think so.
  5. I haven't.
  6. I don't have another cable usful for Nano Arduino boards, so I cannot try another one.
  7. I don't know what that is.

I'm sorry for being such a fool, I am not used to this type ofprojects neither this type of boards.

That's a shame, I hope mine, and everyone's, are able to do what they re supposed to!

I've done what you've told me and a different error appears, now it says this; S'ha produït un error mentre s'enviava el programari. (An error has been produced meanwhile the program was being send)
avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\.\COM5": El sistema no puede encontrar el archivo especificado. (The system cannot find he specified archive)

If you disconnect the board, does COM5 disappear from the ports menu? That's how you know if it's the correct port and if it's plugged in or not.

Tools/ processor; there are three options.

Now that I have seen where I can see the port, it sais it is COM6, sorry for the confusion. If I unplug the board, the port doesn't apear. Is that okay? or should I fix it in some way?

WAIT! I just fixed it selecting COM6, now the code loads perfectly! Thank you all for your advice, you were super nice! I am super grateful with you al!
