I've found this solenoid coil in old junk. Now, in order to make it work as an electromagnet, I need to know voltage and current value to be supplied to it.
Is there any way to determine it by using a multimeter? Or any other way?
I dont have any specifications of this coil.
Image is attached.
Thank you.
Your multimeter will tell you the resistance of the coil. Ohm's law will tell you the current and voltages needed. Do not ever power the coil without the magnetic piston in the coil and use DC to test with.
Solenoids are not usually powered for longer than necessary to move the piston.

Offhand I would say that when you know the resistance, calculate what voltage would result in a one Watt dissipation for continuous use, or twice that for intermittent use.

Why not? Will it affect the space-time continuum?
OK, I was referring to DC.
With a coil like that, the piston is the heat sink.
