NEMA 17 motor control with Arduino and CNC Shield

Hello everyone. Please help me β€” I am a beginner working on a CNC machine and I am having trouble getting the NEMA 17 motors to work.

I have wired everything correctly on the CNC Shield and adjusted the reference voltage (Vref) on the drivers according to the datasheet. I tested all voltage levels and made sure the drivers are properly oriented on the shield. I am powering the CNC Shield with 12V 20A, but no motor turns.

On the software side, I used the GRBL firmware and Universal G-Code Sender to control the machine. I also tested each motor individually using the example code from groundFungus, but I noticed something: when I tried to upload the code with the CNC Shield attached to the Arduino, I got an error message and the upload failed. I had to remove the CNC Shield in order to upload successfully.

I am out of ideas β€” please help me

Please post schematics and datasheet links do the devices.

That is a physical size descriptor, not useful.

Most common refrain just before we find the user wiring error. SHOW US!

After you use IDE/Tool/Auto format, use IDE/Edit/Copy for forum and paste in a reply here. Do that after posting the photo of your hand drawn wiring diagram.

If everything is correct, it should work.

You need to follow the suggestion from @Railroader and post an annotated schematic. Also post links to the technical information for the shield, motors, power supplies, and any other hardware you are using.

Please realize that we cannot see, touch, hear, or otherwise examine your project. All we have is the information you provide. If we do not have enough information, we may give you the wrong answer, or we may have to ask for more details, as in this case.

Since you mentioned using GRBL firmware and Universal G-Code Sender, there may also be a software or configuration issue.

Please post the code or configuration information using code tags, and also state exactly which version of GRBL you used.
