NEMA17 tells nothing about the electrical data of the motor, only the mechanical mounting.
Try a twisted pair cable using the needed dimension of the wires.
Assuming a stepper mpotor....
It probably would if you used decent 2 x twisted pair cable of suitable gauge to carry the current. It might case some RFI into neighbouring systems. Better practice though would be to mount the driver close to the stepper so you just need to run power supply, step, direction and ground signals and don't need to carry the high switching frequency chopping signals from the driver. Still needs to use decent cable, possibly UTP.
