New to Arduino / Advice on remote control vehicle.

I am wanting a hobby and I think Arduino could be a cool one. Though I don't really want to spend alot, I am willing to save up for some boards.

I am thinking about making a remote controlled boat or tank. I am wanting to check things like comparability between boards and idea/advice.

Some Info:
I am new to arduino.
I have minimum experience with programming. (Some scripting with LuaPlayer for PSP.)
I don't want to spend more than $70 for starting. (I know it will cost more for actually doing my project)

I don't have any boards yet, but would like to learn some info about using the boards before I buy anything.

I hope you guys are welcoming to new guys.
I look forward to joining this community.

I am thinking of getting the following:
Arduino Uno
adaFruit's Motor party add-on pack for Arduino (I will be able to use the servo later, but the rest gives me some things to play with.)

I have minimum experience with programming.

look at the the reference section on the main site:

not sure about the boat, but you may want to start with a chassis of some sort(for a tank) and build off of that:

Welcome MrCory! You picked a challenging hobby.
Before you spend any money, you should do some reading. Google for "arduino robot" and lots of interesting articles will pop up.

Hi,

If its RC you are interested in, I am using basic Arduino UNOs in my rc race cars, no additional equipment required beyond the bits you get in any of the started kits -
