Newbe here. Using a push pull solenoid to turn a wheel 60 degrees at a time. What cogs/ gears whould I use on a shaft?

I am working on a project where i need to turn a carousel wheel in 60 degree increments using a push / pull solenoid. The stroke on the solenoid is 10mm and I use a remote (RF) to actuate the solenoid. Is this possible? what type of gears would I need to attach to the carousel shaft etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou.

You stated the stroke of the solenoid, but failed to include the power of the stroke. Gears will increase the movement, but reduce the applied power by the same amount. How much force is required to move the wheel?

Is this possible?

Probably, with custom design and fabrication.

Please post links to the components you have on hand and already have working.

One or more photos of the setup showing the carousel and solenoid would be helpful.

Request for Detailed Information Hardware :

I’m not sure I can help without seeing exactly what you have in front of you. To assist you effectively, please provide the following:

  1. Annotated Schematic: Post a detailed schematic of your setup exactly as you have it wired, showing all connections, including power, ground, and power supplies.
  2. Technical Information Links: For all hardware devices in your circuit, provide links to technical information. Be aware that many items in the Arduino/Pi world may have the same name but function differently. Links to sales pages like Amazon often lack the necessary technical details, so ensure the links you provide contain the correct specifications and data sheets.
  3. Be Thorough: It’s your problem, and the more precise and detailed information you provide, the faster we can help you troubleshoot. This saves everyone time and helps us give you the best possible assistance.

What class is this for?

I think it is not possible. The problem with solenoids is that the amount of pull they can produce changes over how far the plunger is into the solenoid. In my practical experience with these things it will not work.

You would be better off using a stepping motor to do this, as they are designed for working like this. You will need an external power supply to drive the motor as there is not enough power available from an Arduino to do this.

And what deadline are you working to?

Wow, thanks for the quick responses.
I will post pictures of the solenoid I have used and Remote fob along with my 3D print project soon.
Thank you all.

What is the wheel diameter?

How many times will the solenoid be used to move your wheel 60 degrees? Are you building a ratcheting mechanism?
