Newbie wireless antenna question

If I'm on the roof 30' house - I can test R/C car on the ground using 2.4ghz controller a with FPV camera 5.8ghz . Is it possible to mount the antenna's on my roof, run wires down the house to first floor ? If the hardware to do that is complicated or expensive, I can mount the FPV receiver outside and run RCA jack down to first floor. The 2.4ghz FLYSKY controller is not as easy to extend those wires somehow, I think I would have to make an wired ethernet interface I think to send control signals from 1st floor to roof antenna.

I would like advice if anyone has done anything like this, or other ideas on how to get that done. I thought it would be fun to drive the R/C car my town with camera from the living room. Hopefully make it to the pizza place with a wagon to pickup a Pizza.

What part is an Arduino going to play in all this?

I am transcieving data through the wireless modules to and from, using Arduino. The micro-controller manages sensor data, and handles the rest of the stuff on the car that isn't a video signal or the motor data, handled by the saber-tooth driver. By "car" I mean a small little wagon, I'm not remote controlling my spare truck (yet).

Yea, this forum is probably not the best place to ask about antenna signaling. I was just curious if anyone had advice to simplify, and comment on their experience doing this. The google searches I have done for myself already are a little overwhelming with information.

AFAIK you cannot but a cable between a 2.4GHz antenna and its wireless electronics because the signal will just dissipate within the cable before it reaches the antenna.

Quite possible to do this. However the losses of signal will be great, but may be usable. Look at this chart to see the attenuation of various types of coax cable at the frequencies you are using: Coax Attenuation Chart.

Look at this chart

Thanks for that. I have bookmarked it.

How does one interpret those dB values? What value would mean that 50% of the power was lost?

3 db is half the original power.

Thanks - that is straightforward.

I have seen figures for receivers measured in -NNdB (which I don't understand) and I was wondering if the table you linked to was using the same nomenclature.

Don't know. Google thinks it related to footaball (US style).
