just finished my weather station, just have to sort out the outdoor solar issue so the system is completly independent.
I'd like to use the station like one I bought from amazon, so I need some kind of casing or whatever in which I can place my receiver station that shows current data.
Any idea? Some guys build a case for the 16x02 LCD's but my girlfriend would kill me if it wont look nice
I thought of switching the 16x2 for a colored LCD (but have no idea on how to do that :D) and build a casing made of acrylic glass or something...
You could make something from acrylic sheet or better, polycarbonate. Or, or course, nicely painted or varnished wood.
If you don't want to go that route I suggest you browse some of the suppliers' websites (such as RapidOnLine). Many of them sell a wide range of enclosures - too much choice, really.
I maybe jumping ahead here, but advice I have heard is "Happy wife, happy life!" :
Maybe trying edge-lit acrylic could look good. Perhaps with RGB led's with programmable colour depending on the weather?? (Edge Lit Acrylic -Google Search)
Just joking here, but... A mood sensor for the partner would be handy thing to incorporate, changing colours to sort of give you advance warning about your next project If you make any progress on this pls share...
I am guessing if you are on battery power for the base station the continuous LED lighting would not be feasible, but a mains powered build could be pretty impressive with the edge lighting effects.
