No such file or directory - Problem

Hi, i tried to build a simple project which uses "pitches.h" so called "Library" i'll explain:
I got the error code: pitches.h: No such file or directory
Here's the code:

//RED 9;
//BLUE 10;
//WHITE 11;

#include "pitches.h"

//notes in the melody
int melody[] = {
NOTE_C4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_D4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_F4, NOTE_E4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_D4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_G4, NOTE_F4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_C5, NOTE_A4, NOTE_F4, NOTE_E4, NOTE_D4, NOTE_AS4, NOTE_AS4, NOTE_A4, NOTE_F4, NOTE_G4, NOTE_F4
};

//note durations: 4 = quarter note, 8 = eight note, etc.
int noteDurations[] = {
8, 8, 4, 4, 4, 2, 8, 8, 4, 4, 4, 2, 8, 8, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 8, 8, 4, 4, 4, 2,
};

void setup() {
pinMode (9, OUTPUT);
pinMode (10, OUTPUT);
pinMode (11, OUTPUT);

for (int thisNote = 0 ; thisNote < 25 ; thisNote++) {
int randomLight1 = random(9, 12);
int randomLight2 = random(9, 12);
int randomLight3 = random(9, 12);

digitalWrite (randomLight1, HIGH);
digitalWrite (randomLight2, HIGH);

digitalWrite (randomLight3, LOW);
//digitalWrite (random(9, 12), LOW);

int noteDuration = 1130/noteDurations[thisNote];
tone (3, melody[thisNote], noteDuration);

int pause = noteDuration * 1.275;
delay (pause);

noTone(3);

}

delay(3000);
digitalWrite(9, LOW);
digitalWrite(10, LOW);
digitalWrite(11, LOW);

}

void loop() {
//no need to repeat

}

And here's the "pitches.h" file he gave in the tutorial (which written in C)

Now, the problem is i have the file on my pc and i tried to add him as a library (as a Zip file) and it doesn't work.
Therefore i can't upload the code to my board. I checked the Internet for hours and sadly didn't find any solution.

Help please, Roy.

You have two options:

OPTION 1: Install the file as a library. You didn't provide any useful information about what the problem was when you attempted this, so I'll have to guess what went wrong:

  • Create a folder named pitches
  • Put pitches.h in the folder you created.
  • (In the Arduino IDE) Sketch > Include Library > Add .ZIP Library
  • Select the pitches folder you created.
  • Click the "Open" button.

OPTION 2: Add the file to your sketch:

  • (In the Arduino IDE) Sketch > Add File...
  • Select pitches.h
  • Click the "Open" button. You will now see a new tab in your sketch named "pitches.h".

Hi,
iv'e tried both solution you kindly offered.
This time i'm attaching photos regarding each scenario
Roy.

You have the file named "pitches.h.c". You need to remove the .c extension.

For option two, you can do that by:

  • Click the downward arrow button on the right side of the Arduino IDE's tab bar.
  • Selecting "Rename" from the menu.
  • In the "New name for file" field, remove the .c extension from the filename.
  • Click the "OK" button.
