I just want start by saying I have zero experience with arduino. Only projects I have long time watched be completed. I hope I am putting this in the correct place.
What I am looking to do is add an interface to obd2/elm327 adapters. I know there is hundreds of obd2 scanners made at this point many with arduino.
Let me define what I am saying. Currently you can buy or make a obd2 scanner and read factory pid from a vehicle. What I need is ability to add extra auxillary sensors in.
Ideally, this would just be a hardware interface that is connected between obd2 port on vehicle and obd2 scanner. For now simple 0-5v sensors would work to get the ball rolling. The software I read back to is forscan or toque. Both of which are capable of mapping pid's.
If anyone can point me right direction here I am grateful. I am sure this is not that simple as I have found 1 product ever created with this and they are discontinued.
100% agree with that. I know this can be done as plx was able to do it. Unfortunately their product is discontinued. From what I can tell due to poor marketing. I have dreamed about this for years.
I feel with all the tech these days there is no reason this cant be done. I know enough to do damage. I am an electrician that works with control circuits and plc/instrumentation experience. Automotive is my hobby and I know this ability would put the control back in end user hands.
There is a few companies on big scale that make a product to do this for over 1k+ price tag. However they always require their screens. I want end user control where you can put it on any touch screen you want.
So, I was finally able to track something down autopi says their tmu cm4 with a hat will do it. Now I need to understand the code behind all this and how I am wiring stuff. Any tips in the direction to go is appreciated.
You hardly can expect any suggestions or tips because you didn't clearly explain what are you going to do. What "auxillary sensors" do you planned between obd port and obd software? What the point to place the sensors there, what they could measure that place?
Hmmm.... I thought I disclosed that. 0-5v linear sensors, sensors would need to read temperature and psi. They need to be on the obd2 line of communication for the sensors to be addressed and read out by the software to display digital gauges. Time lapse of say 4ms would be ideal.
