OBDII diagnostics with ELM+bluethooth

Dear all,

I'm exploring the possibilities of using an Arduino with the OBDII port of my BMW E92 320i. I've ordered an OBD2 Bluetooth dongle that also works with BimmerCode/BimmerLink, and I have a K+DCAN USB cable, but it's always in the way and requires connecting to my laptop. I don't always want to connect my phone either, so I'm thinking of installing a small LCD/TFT display with the most important data: oil temperature, engine temperature, and maybe more (depending on what's possible and useful).

I have very basic Arduino knowledge. We covered some simple projects at school for a couple of months, but we didn't really do anything with Bluetooth.

My question is if anyone here has experience with this or has done something similar. The basic idea is to connect the Arduino with the dongle (prefferably via bluethooth, otherwise cables) and display the values on a small screen, but I suspect it won't be that easy...

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks for reading my long post.

Edit: Is this something I could follow?
