odometer/resettable trip odometer using a 7 segment display and EEPROM advice

Hi everyone, I am trying to create an odometer, and a trip odometer with EEPROM for a custom car using 7 segment displays, I have background knowledge on how the VSS of a vehicle works, I have the MAX7219 digital display and the TM1637 here, but I've been hunting on Google for guidance on pretty much anything I can work with, and hit quite a few dead ends...I heard that arduino is the place to make these types of circuits. I own an ONU, just been trying out different things, and it's pretty sweet!

I think this topic may have been forumed to death, if it has been, can someone direct me to a link? or if not can someone help me get started with a source code? any help will be great!

it all starts with the sensor.

how are you sensing distance ? how many pulses per furlong ?

you get the pulses per unit of measure
change them to show the cumulative values
have your fixed odometer and your trip meters, as many as you want.,

but it starts with your sensor. wadda ya got ?

Hi there, thank you for the response! I have a 16,000 ppm unit (16 pulse per rotation of the sensor) 3 wire, neg. pos. and send wire (5 volt pulse). I also have another sensor that does 8000 ppm, so I have more to work with. I build dash electronics, RPM, MPH/KM/h gauges, oil pressure, battery, water temp, ect. and I want to add an odometer and a trip odometer to them...I have a schematic for a type of odometer, but it uses old school technology and takes up alot of real estate on the PCB, plus it doesn't retain the info when the power is disconnected...
