Not sure if this is the right section to post my question.
Has anybody used an OTG cable to an Android phone? I recently purchased a cable via E-Bay but when I connected to my UNO I realised that I would have to provide power to the UNO. When I connected to the 12v jack there was a puff of smoke from the UNO and my phone when haywire. I was able to recover the phone but the UNO was fried.
If I look at the wiring circuit of the OTG cable I get the impression that it was putting two power supplies in parallel which the UNO didn't like.
I have used the bench supply a lot since and it has given me no problems. I am beginning to wonder if the OTG cable was in effect an OTG cable and not just an ordinary USB cable. I am a newbie here but I believe that with the OTG cable there is an additional "sense" connection and without that my phone didn't see the UNO and with my lack of knowledge I actually connected two power supplies in parallel, power from the phone to the UNO USB and power to the power jack form my bench power supply. My reason for doing this was that there was no indication on the UNO that it was powered when I connected the phone via the OTG cable.
The question I have-would my phone (Motorola E3) power the UNO without an external power supply?
