Hello All,
This is my first post here!
I just bought this arm to hack. I'm looking at changing the DC motors for similar size stepper motors, motor controller and a Arduino board like the Arduino Mega 2560 Rev3 (over kill I know). Use Python to write the code.
I've got a few questions-
-
Is there a similar sized stepper motor on the market where I can just replace the DC motors (DC out, stepper in with no modification to the DC motor housing)?

If not would it be possible to remove the gear reduction in the motor assembly and take the main black cog and put this directly on the stepper motor shaft. 3D print a motor housing to accommodate the stepper motor?
I was thinking if I left the gear reduction in the motor assembly with the stepper motor, this might interfere with the incremental steps of the motor. Making the arm less accurate due to the gearing reduction setup.
Your thoughts please.
