I am a 13 year old buy who strives to make robots to make the world better i have been sketching ideas in my little notebook and when i finally got my audinio i was so happy. But since my parents are unapriitive of what i am trying to do i have to work my ass off to buy parts and they never let me take the easy way and just buy it with a credit card and just pay them , on i have to spend 8 dollors off of my 100 dollors i saved so i can get a pre paid card.
My question to you if you are older when you where a kid and you tryed to do this what did your parents do where they as nice and i just go the bad end of the deal or are all parents like that.
My mom got me my first Arduino as I think it was a birthday gift or something. And then I showed her some of the stuff I did with it... She has bought me 5 Duemilanove's and 1 MEGA so far. Show them what you can accomplish with it, and they might be a little more nice about it.
Unless your parents Mr. Richard Sr and Regina Rich, (Google it) chances are you being treated exactly the way any normal 13 year old would be treated by their parents.
No matter how much you say "you need it" they know how they were when they were 13 and they have a very clear understanding that you can easily waste their money as well as be responsible. It's a tough age to convince anyone you are careful and can make good decisions.
I think you just need to listen to what you parents offer to do for you and if it's not what you like then you will need to learn to cope with it.
There is a reason that you are considered a minor until you 18-21 and it has nothing to do with parents wanting to be mean to you.
Liker jermey said what do u think it would take to make them under stand that it is productive to my life and career.
Well your parents are (I'm sure) concerned and interested about your overall growth, not just your current hobbyist interests. Try and show them progress in not just your special interest but in your school progress. Your written English is pretty weak, but I forget what 13 year old writing should look like. Goggle has a nice browser add-on spell checker for free, I need and use it a lot.
I was very interested in electronics even at 13 but certainly wasn't able to purchase all I wish that I could have. However I did read everything I could lay my hands on and found ways to scrounge parts from discarded TVs and such. Don't let money be a barrier to your progress but rather a challenge. How you handle barriers and problems through out your life will determine your success as much as anything else.
Sort of but they wouldnt let me do things like soldering stuff
Now i CAN ;D
My mom won't let me solder inside... She makes me solder in the garage that is like 125F in the Summer... And then I'm leaning over an 800F soldering iron. Her excuse: It's a rental house!
Obviously she never listened when I explained the fume extractor.
I know what you mean my deask is right next to the window and i have a fan but she made me pay for the wood to make my desk and its about the smae for me but we here in katy texas hit 40 degrees and super hot in the summer.
@MakerMann
just forget ! just feel glad that they are allowing you to do things you like
when i was 13 i didnt even have the freedom of spending what i stored after i had enough money to buy something i had to ask my parent's to spend it
You sound like you have the same problem i do my parent have a very stedy income but i spent 4 month putting the time in to make a few projects just to get them to use there credit card to help me buy my uno.
When I was young, my parents would write a check for mail-order items that I wanted to order with my own money, and I'm willing to do the same (or otherwise translate their money into credit card numbers or paypal transactions.) Even for things that I don't particularly support (games), although not for things that I specifically disapprove of (um, hasn't come up yet.)
At 13, I believe you can open a "teen checking" account at many banks (typically free if associated with your parents account and they maintain the appropriate conditions.) This may even include a "debit card" that works for online transactions. Tell your parents that maintaining a bank account is good experience and practice for you (It should be. "Make it so!")
8% seems high for a pre-paid debit card, but I have no experience there... Can't you pick up something like a "Visa Gift Card" for essentially face-value? You're not funding an actual credit card thing (which has added costs and such), just providing an alternate transfer mechanism.
