I don't follow. How can they stand on the rim of the dish if it has spikes all along the top? :astonished:

Either you have spikes, or you do not. The spikes on the sills outside my office windows seem pretty effective, if unsightly.

You can get plastic spikes. If it is an offset dish, there is no problem putting spikes on the LNB anyway.

I have metal spikes on the bracket that holds the dish to the wall. We had the plastic ones they were of no use whatsoever. The pigeons simply hung from the underside of the bracket as they pecked them to pieces. They can even use the perforations of the dish itself to cling onto while they construct their countermeasures.

They don't seem interested in the front of the dish or the LNB. It's the space between the back of the dish and the wall that they occupy. so I'm not even sure why it should cause the loss of signal, but it does.

I wonder if some kind of bright halogen light would blind them to the point of preventing their nefarious activity.
Maybe a mounting plate below with the lamps pointed straight up so when they try to look down from above they are blinded. It could be motion triggered and have a time delay to shut off after so many seconds and a time delay before it can turn on again to let the bulbs cool off.

Can you fill that space with something - wooden box, crumpled chicken wire or similar? However, I'd guess that LOS is caused when the pigeons are flying to the site; do you get it when they're sitting behind the dish too?

Fine nylon mesh. Cut a disk larger than your dish. Get your wife to sew a hem with some strong elastic in it. Fit it over the dish.
I neither know the size of your dish nor the size of your wife, but an old pair of her tights, with the legs cut off, might fit...and give the neighbours a cheap thrill.
