Plugin for arduino

When I was working on a sketch, a notification appeared at the top saying "No Pluggin Connection. Uploading is disabled untill you reconnect" It told me that if I was having problems with it I should download the program again. When I tried to do so, it said "We are not able to detect the installed plugin". I am on windows. If anyone can help me that would be great. this project is due soon.

Hi @smallz101,
what browser are you using? Can you tell us the version of the plugin (click on the tray icon to read it). Have you installed the plugin following the getting started steps?

Thank you for responding,

I am on google chrome. It will not tell me what version I am useing. How can I find this out? I did follow the steps.

@smallz101 Just click once on the Arduino teal icon on the tray bar and you will see the version number in light gray. It should be 1.1.54, see attachment.

I have the same problem. My computer is an Asus K501UW, Im using windows 10 and chrome, as well as version 1.1.54-bba30de, and yet the webe editor still says "No Plugin Connection. Uploading is disabled until you reconnect." It used to work with my last computer, but since I switched, I cant get the web editor to see the plugin.

@ Stibnite

Did you follow the whole getting started section and say YES to allow the certificate and firewall exceptions etc ?

You can find it HERE

Hi,

follow the whole getting started section and say YES to allow the certificate and firewall exceptions etc

I just did this, and I found it really worrying when it installed so many drivers.

The problem is there is no "Progress" information at all, with blank screen for many seconds between requests to allow driver installs. Never sure if it's done...

Suggest that SOME kind of progress information be displayed. Or at least tell us how many driver requests to allow install we can expect. I lost count at about 6 or 7... some Intel, some Other??

I need to guide schools in installing this stuff, and SkoolIT is very sensitive to "unknown Stuff".

Thanks!

@ Terry

The amount of drivers depends a lot on the amount of different boards connected.

It sounds like you also have a few (possibly many more LOL) than I do.
Some of the driver installs can be accidentally "hidden" too if you have another application open full screen.
The "INTEL" ones can be a bit of a PITA too as they have here at least popped up during core updates too with the regular IDE.
Not seen "other" as a driver, what board would that be for ?

There was another topic covering a "silent" install around here that you may want to take a peek at as it leans more to a school / EDU / workshop approach.

Tend to agree that a better info panel for the install would be nice.
Maybe pre tick for the cert, additional drivers, and firewall permissions.

Hi,

sounds like you also have a few

I think there were 3 UNOs, a Mega and a Esplora plugged when I did this. I didn't expect it would behave differently for different boards.

What happens when a user plugs in a new board they never used before??

AND I have several schools with Chromebooks waiting for a shoe to drop or run away. REALLY hope this is worked out by about July so some schools can be ready in September..

BallScrew?? What are you, some kinda CNC Weenie??

OK lets get "ballscrew" out of the way first lol
Yes it does stem from a CNC aspect and the ability to install them accurately and quicker than they had been done before for the Colchester / Harrison lathes taking it from 2 a day to 8+. And later to the first ever field install of a ceramic spindle replacement for a large high speed FANUC mill when I moved to Canada.
I cant program CNC worth a darn but I can fix em pretty well and know my way around a logic ladder enough to be able to drop in precision laser measuring modules (down to microns).

As for the drivers issue It may be a good idea to have maybe a whole driver pack install.
You gave me that idea BTW, and the fact that I have to do that now to bring XP boxes up from fresh.
Your view on that aspect especially welcome.

Have you asked to get on the tester list for the chromebooks ?
They posted a link or two recently so its semi public beta.
Sounds like it would be a great hands on for you to come in from the ground up.

@terryking228 thank you for your feedback.

Yes unfortunately Windows needs a lot of drivers and we are installing them all so any official board you will plugin in will work right away. We have no real control over how Windows deals with this subsequent installation, it is a native thing and we can not add a progress bar.
Putting everything together in a single package would of course be nicer, unfortunately it is not a fast and easy job, if many people are finding this really annoying we can add it to the wishlist and trying to schedule it.

Each driver popup states clearly the owner (arduino.cc, arduino.org or Intel), we can add a list of them in the Configuration flow if you feel it would really help.

For the Chrome app betatesting: it is currently private just a selected number of people are accessing now, but you can sign up to the waiting list.

Hi 00alis,

Each driver popup states clearly the owner (arduino.cc, arduino.org or Intel),

Actually two of them had no ID I could see. I will need to try it all again on a different machine.
[UPDATE] I will get screenshots

The issue is not inconvenience or confusion for moderately knowledgeable users. Arduino Create is aimed especially at new users and schools. There is already a lot of push-back from school IT departments about installing ANY kind of driver. When it is this opaque a process, with not even a list of drivers to be installed, it's hard for those of us trying to get Arduino into schools to convince IT departments that are worried. They are worried that the viruses and scams and identity theft the school's parents see on TV will somehow sneak in, and even ONE instance will be a major problem for them. So they just forbid "foreign software"..

I'm trying not to be distracted from getting kids involved with hands-on technology.

I've sold thousands of Arduino-related kits to Universities and private schools, who are not freaked out by a Driver...

Thanks for your hard work, and for listening!

(I signed up for the Chrome Beta.. Thanks...)

@terryking228 please let us know about unsigned drivers! Absolutely this should not happen, and we will look into it as soon as you give feedback. It would be great if you could provide us with screenshots.

Thanks again!
