Port disappeared Uno on Mac 0s 10.10.5

Using Arduino IDE 1.x

Downloaded current Arduino 1.6.11 for Mac Lion and later via Chrome
OS is Yosemite 10.10.5
Board is Uno
Zip file downloaded
Expanded Zip
App icon appeared
Directions indicate I do not need an additional driver
Directions seem to indicate I should get a folder and be able to access a control panel - Just get icon
Placed icon in Applications folder in Harddrive and in doc
Uno connected and lit up
Ran first Sketch
Worked fine
Quit app
Shut down Mac
Started Mac and repeated initial steps
Uno lights up
Correct port not showing
Quit and re-opened app numerous times
Completed restarts as well as complete shut downs of Mac
Uninstalled Arduino software
Re installed Arduino software using Safari
Still no port
Back to Chrome
installed Adruino 1.6.10 from Arduino site
Repeated steps
Ports still not showing

Additional info: The USB cable is providing power to the UNO but USB is not showing up in Mac System while other USB peripherials are.This is the cable that shipped with the arduino - possibly cable failure of some kind.?

The chip close to usb_connector.. If CH340 you need additinal driver.
