When I try to select PORTS under TOOLS, it is grayed out. How can I go about activating this option?

Could be one or more of a few things. Mine is greyed out if there is no arduino connected to the usb.
I'm pretty sure its connected. The light comes on. However, when I plug it into my Mac, I am able to select the ports. The problem is when I am plugging it into my PC. It does not allow me to change ports.
Hi! Just got my UNO R3 and MEGA2560 boards several weeks ago. I was trying to get I2C working and lost the ability to upload my UNO with the blink (or any) sketch. With your board plugged in, try going into your Device Manager/Ports on your PC and let Windows search for a driver update. Mine updated to COM6 and I was also then able to select it on the Arduino Tools/Ports line and was able to then upload okay. Hope this helps!
