Ported to a IOT project on the cloud ?

Hello,

I made a traffic light system with the arduino
Code you can see here : https://wokwi.com/projects/459464164481108993

Now I wonder if I can port it to a IOT project
Where for example I can use a dashboard to see how the lights are working
And I can switch on the dashboard from working to maintaince state.

Is something like this possible ?

Hi @roelofw,

Yes, you can do it.

To connect an Arduino board to the Cloud, it has to be one of the compatible boards: Arduino Cloud compatible boards — Arduino Official Store.

After connecting your board to the Arduino Cloud, you can create a Dashboard where you can choose which values to visualize in real time, and you can also use the right widget to change the value of a property from the dashboard.

nice

That would save me some pins and wires on my breadboard
And I use a "old" Arduino Uno 3

The only thing then I have to think about is displaying the state of the traffic-lights on the dashboard

Unfortunately, the Arduino UNO 3 is not compatible with Arduino Cloud.

What can be a better choice also for future projects

the R4 wifi or the nano esp32

I doubt now between IOT projects or robotics

They have some differences in the hardware, so it depends on what you need.

Anyway, the Arduino Uno R4 WiFi is the next version of the Uno R3. Indeed, on the dedicated page (https://store.arduino.cc/products/uno-r4-wifi), it is specified that the sketches built for Uno R3 are adaptable to Uno R4 WiFi.

Let's say I want to begin with small iot projects and later on make bigger ones

Which one is then the "best" ?

I can recommend the Nano ESP32 board as a good place to get started, for the following reasons:

  • not expensive
  • You can get a DIN-Rail Screw Terminal adapter for it, which makes moving it into a “real world” setup easier.
  • it has wifi, so easy to get on the Arduino IOT Cloud

Beyond that it depends on how much bigger your projects get… You can go as far as the Giga with the Touch Screen if you like!

Could also be nice

A touch screen control for the traffic lights

I only have to check then if that project could fit into the free account.
And before I can port it. I have to find a way to learn the arduino cloud
So a few steps to go

The cloud bit is pretty easy.

If you are going to use the touch-screen on the Giga R1 then I recommend using LVGL, it is a very good way of creating a nice user interface. Have a good read through all the posts on here relating to LVGL as there are a few things that you need to follow to get the best use of it.

Good luck with your project!
