Arduino UNO R4 WIFI not connecting to Cloud

Hey all,

I recently go a Arduino Uno r4 wifi, you know how it is (first time btw). Ready to make some projects and guess it has WIFI! Isn't that cool...

Didn't know I would be spending hours just trying to fix something. But the issue is that I CANNOT GET THIS THING too work with Arduino Cloud. I'm trying to add it to Cloud, like usual, but nope. I've tried with USB (original cable that came with kit) and all it would give me is "exit status 1." and TRUST ME, I've tried EVERYTHING. Permissions, different browsers, heck even DIFFERENT OS's. Then I said okay, lets use Bluetooth instead (on my phone because I guess chrome on Linux isn't enough), but the thing never shows up. I've tried following the guide on device provising, but I always get stuck on the API part, I am on free and don't want to pay money TO PAIR MY DEVICE. I got to profile, then api keys, and the guide is like "take the client id and secret and paste it in" I DON'T SEE A ID, it only says PAY. Also I don't know where the original sketch for provising is (the one with the bluetooth logo on the matrix)

So I put all my trust into the Arduino Gods (aka hopefully you) and hope you solve this

Specfications:

OS: Linux/ Debian (latest)

Board: UNO R4 WIFI

Browser: Chrome

Wifi Firmware: 0.6 (i think, probably a way to see)

Board Firmware: 1.5.2

Any more info needed, just ask!

If you somehow survived this rant, I hope you can feel the pain ;(
and am surprised.

I am confused by your use of a phone?
The best way to help us help you is to go through the steps taking screen shots of what you see so we can see. It's been a while since I played in the cloud, but my memory is that you register the board via WiFi, the USB cable just supplies power as far as I know.

I have Arduino Cloud (the website, app.arduino.cc or something like) pulled up on my phone because every time I try to use my computer, it says something "switch to chrome and then try again" for bluetooth. Here are some screenshots of errors and stuff:

  1. Setup Screen

  2. Error i get when i try USB

Tell me if you need more pictures (what info)
Also I have tried the basics of this, but I would happily do them again

Thanks

I don't recall ever seeing those screens. Let me show you what is normal. Don't use the phone, just use a generic chrome browser.
Starting at arduino.cc select Cloud then you will see

Ah, they added something new, USB and BT. Let's continue the old way since new stuff often has bugs. Click the Devices button then you will see this

Now click the + DEVICE and you will see this

Now just click Arduino Boards (I had an esp32 handy so used it but the steps are the same)

now click the checkmark

and done

at what step did yours fail

If you are wondering how i get to those screens, on the chose your device thing i always just click Arduino boards (because well, its a Arduino board). I tried this and now what (this is new territory for me). I tried to use the id it gave for arduino cli by using arduino-cloud-cli credentials init but its still says invalid client ID

Thanks,

Also I just realized while reading your reply again, you said: "Now just click Arduino Boards (I had an esp32 handy so used it but the steps are the same)". Now to my understanding if you click Arduino Boards it brings you to this screen:

(I'm still on chrome, so you still see that the BT is grayed out) Then if you click USB, it says this:

Thanks,

Ok, mark post 4 as the solution then.

but it isnt solved...? (sry i might be missing something)

You said thanks and the screen shot is showing the board connecting. Why isn't it solved?

because if you do go ahead and click the board it says "pairing" pairs and then says updating firmwares and then it gives a error:

The board pairng

Updating Firmware

And the error screen is on one of the top posts where you asked for screenshots.
PS: I always put "Thanks" on all of my posts and replies

Thanks,

Ok, then just follow the instructions there and contact support. I don't see that you have made any mistakes so it may be a known bug.

Just one last question (kinda dumb): but where is support (I low-key though you guys were support)

I don't know, I can count on less than two hands the number of times I ever used support in my 65+ yrs of working with computers.

I will look i my shop to see if I can find an R4 to try it, give me a few mins.

I appreciate your help with this. I do have to go somewhere and might respond tomorrow, so don't really expect to respond

Ok, I connected and it is now updating.

And done

So it's something in your environmrnt, I would check cable first then make sure all software is current.

I tried it with a different cable (lower quality because the cable I was currently using was high quality) and it didn't work and I did just figure out that all of this would be useless because I can't even use OTA updates (whole point of connecting to cloud) because Arduino makes you PAY. :frowning:

So if there is really any advantage to doing this, can you please tell me EVERYTHING I need to check for updating.

Thanks,

I showed you the screen prints of me just following on screen directions and it worked fine. You must be deviating from those instructions or have a faulty cabler or PC or board. There is a free plan, did you not know that? And if you want more an entire year is a bit less than $0.20 per day.

You can do OTA without the Arduino Cloud.
