FYI: I bought and tried STLINK-V3MINIE:
IT WORKS
When you need a debugger on Portenta H7, coming with a cable (no need to solder) - this STLINK-V3MINIE is not 100 percent pin compatible with Portenta H7 debug header - but possible to make it work.
Just:
offset the STLINK-V3MINIE female header by one row!
(see drawing)
Here, how the headers look like - see that it needs to "shift" the female cable header by one row.
The SWD works, including SWO for ITM prints. Just the debugger VCP is not usable. (OK)
BTW: when you buy a STLINK-V3SET:
it comes with different cables:
one of them is a correct one for Portenta (from the 2x7pin to a 2x10pin for Portenta).
I tried the cable on STLINK-V3MINIE - IT WORKS
The STLINK-V3SET works as well as a debugger on Portenta H7 (I tried as well now).
(it would be nice if ST could put this cable also into the STLINK-V3MINIE package)
This is so cool now: no need to solder my own cable and ST debugger STLINK-V3SET matches with Portenta H7.
I have the same problem and bought both breakout board and the ST-linV3minie, but still cant recover the board... I cant burn the bootloader on the board!!!
could you help me on this ?
