Possible damaged Nano

My Nano has the tx, rx and power lit up when connected by usb - the com port is greyed on the IDE.

Does this mean it's a gonner, or is it repairable?

If I can repair it - how to would be appreciated.

Does Windows recognise the board when you plug it in and create a serial port ?

Hi
If you have a knowledge of electronics, you can see from the attached diagram that the RX and TX LEDs are connected to the FT232RL chip.
Probably the Atmega 328 chip may be ok and the defect could be the FT232RL chip.

Options:

  1. Change the FT232RL chip
  2. Remove the chip and use an external USB/TTL module

It recognizes the board but shows no com port.

Sorry I misread this before - and replied incorrectly - Windows does not show the serial device.

Am not that knowledgeable - would one of these do the trick.

Hi
I think this is better and easier to use.

OK finally got the parts, is there anything special about wiring etc, that I should know beforehand.
