hello all,
i would like to know if you have ideas to use an arduino with 2 current sensors one on the outlet of my solar inverter that goes to the grid and one current sensor on the electric meter input
to compare between the two and close a relay (relay 1)that start the boiler heating water when electrity is availible with pv (current sensor 1) and i have no consommation on the (grid current sensor 2)
thank you in advance but i think it is a very helpfull project for a lots of people!
No.
If your inverter feeds back into the grid, it will be an essential requirement for the inverter to cease working once the grid fails or switches off.
You cannot bypass this arrangement as it puts line workers at risk from feedback voltage if they isolate the supply for maintenance.
What you can do is run your heater on main grid supply (not night tarrif etc.) only when the inverter is normally supplying power to the grid.
Switching it off via a timer and contactor from grid supply during periods of say, 3 in one afternoon to 9am next day.
At times, during rainy days or bleak conditions, the heater will run on the grid as normal but this is normally a rare occasion in my experience.
Any work on the above would need to be completed by a licenced electrician and complete the appropriate certifications from the supply authority.
Yes good idea, but I need to tell you more about my project the water heater is used as inlet water for my gas water heater so no matter if the water is cold during rainy days or in the winter. it will only work as preheated water. What i want is that it only work on pv source not on grid because here in Belgium when we aren't consuming the electricity the power meter don't go backward and all is lost we don't have money for that you understand ? And i know that i need the grid connected for the inverter working.
I would like to add that I am a competent electrician, I just need help with Arduino
i need a system that compare my pv production and my power consumption
to know if it can start the boiler to not waste the energy produced
i know that is possible but i don't know how i'm really newbie with arduino's.
In my home system there is a smart meter.
You can read it with arduino. You can read it with an old phone/modem cable.
You may then switch on your heater if pv production is larger then household electricity usage. You could even balance if you have a ssd to control your heater.
Landis Gyr+ E350.
It has DSMR2.2+ capability (I think that is the communication protocol).
It was installed here by the electricity distribution company.
