Hey there. total embarassing noob question here.
I'm trying to use the isd1820 for musical/sound performance applications as a sort of rudimentary lofi looper.
I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out how to power the unit.
I connected a 3v power supply to both of the vcc posts initially, and got nothing, reversed polarity, and still nothing.
So I connected one end of the power supply to a vcc lug, and the other to the ground. That made the led light up when the record button was pressed, but I could not get any sound except for a slight buzz to come from the unit. I poked and prodded around a bit, but think I may have fried the unit. (not a huge deal, it was only $2) I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong before I order more.
Yeah it's not a huge deal. I found a supplier who sells them for $2 each.
The possible applications for this thing could be amazing if I can get it to work
Yeah... Reversing polarity is never a good thing. Sometimes there is no harm, but you never know.
Buy from a reputable dealer who gives a good manual or connection diagram.
Looking at the datasheet, it looks like both VCC pins should be connected to +3v, and the Gnd (if there are two, both) should be connected to Gnd. All of this depends on how the module manufacturer made the PCB. The chip has separate analog and digital power busses.
