I posted about this over in the paid consultancy forum, but felt it might be appropriate here as well. Moderators please feel free to delete one or the other if you feel it's too redundant.
First, a bit of background. The Association of Professional Model Makers will be hosting our biennial conference in Dayton Ohio over the weekend of March 4th and 5th. Our membership represents professionals that build physical models and prototypes, from architectural models to product development/design models, props for film effects to medical prostheses, from fine scale miniatures to courtroom litigation models. Our membership includes model makers working for companies like Microsoft, Google, Garmin, Steelcase, MillerKnoll, as well as hundreds of other shops large and small across various fields of endeavor. Our conference will bring together over a hundred such model makers to attend two days of workshops on various model making topics, tour local model shops and prototyping facilities, network with fellow model makers, and interact with vendors trading in technology and materials of use to the model making community.
The APMM board of directors is hoping to find a local Arduino practitioner who can present a 1 hour workshop to a class of 20-30 model makers, most of whom will have little to no experience with the subject but are eager to learn more about it. Emphasis of this workshop would be on fundamentals and basic principles, with an eye toward demonstrating the usefulness of the technology for motion and light control, and for sensory input to trigger such motion and light effects. While the workshop would not need to be hands-on, it would be best if you had a slideshow/powerpoint or very good physical examples on hand to demonstrate what is being discussed. I feel it's important to stress that you don't need to be an expert teacher OR an expert with Arduino to provide what we're looking for. If you have the basics down and can share those basics with others reasonably well, you'll almost certainly be able to deliver an hour-long presentation at the level we're looking for.
Compensation is flexible but will include a small cash honorarium as well as an opportunity to attend other workshops and interact with the professional model makers and vendors in attendance over the weekend. If you're in the Dayton Ohio area, know Arduino, love making things and would enjoy expanding your knowledge base and getting a chance to network with some professional makers from around the world, this would be a unique opportunity for you.
